Believe it or not but I only watched Flashdance the movie in the past couple years . . . I know it is a classic! I honestly love it and when I heard that Flashdance was being made as a musical I was excited. I can't wait to how they interpret the film :)
I just landed on this AMAZING article from the Miami Herald. Now I am (even more) looking forward to seeing this musical!
Which show will they make into a musical next? I would love it if they did something really unexpected . . . an action movie maybe . . . any ideas, suggestions?
Don't forget there is still time to become a Broadway Across Canada subscriber! Which means that you get to renew your tickets (seats reserved) for the 2014-2015 subscription!
This is a blog about my love of theatre! I have seen several plays throughout my 30 years . . . and as a new mom hope to spread the joy of theatre to my daughter, Mya.

Have you seen JERSEY BOYS ???
I can honestly say that Jersey Boys was not on my list of plays to see. I was pleasantly surprise sitting in the National Art Centre watching this world renowned play.
I now understand why this play has won numerous accolades and awards.
The Ottawa Citizen review describes this play best.
The history of this foursome is told in four acts (book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice; music by Bob Gaudio; lyrics by Bob Crewe). One man tells his own story per act as the overall plot unfurls. It’s a structure that works well because it builds and fulfills expectation and keeps the story moving at a healthy clip.
I am incredibly tempted to get another pair of tickets for this show! There is still time! Jersey Boys is at the Ottawa National Arts Centre till July 7th.
Trust me you don't want to miss it! Get your tickets here.

Have you heard!!! The 2013-2014 Ottawa Broadway Across Canada Season has been announced!!!
What is in the line up?!
I must admit I am most excited about seeing Flashdance. Believe it or not I only saw Flashdance the movie in the last two years. It was on my list of old movies to see. It is incredible how they turn beloved old movies into broadway theatre! So far I have seen Dirty Dancing which is also a cult favorite and that play is up there in my favorites.
Which play are you looking forward in seeing? Are you going to subscribe to the 2013-2014 line up?

The only word that comes to mind to describe the play Billy Elliot is . . . AMAZING!! It is non stop singing and dancin but never too much just the right amount.
The young actor Ben Cook who played Billy Elliot last night was incredible. I saw the movie several years ago and the play brought it all back.
From what we could tell the actors were not from Great Britan but they had the accents perfected!!!! The audience understood every word which is sometimes an issue when seeing a play.
Oh and I can't forget the little old lady that was sitting in the seat in front of us . . . she was adorable. clapping and bobbing up and down while Billy Elliot sang and danced :) I hope that when I am in my old age I can still enjoy going to the theatre :)
Have you seen it?! What did you think?

Rock of Ages!!!! Coming to Ottawa (2013)
I have decided to drag my husband to see Rock of Ages at the Ottawa National Arts Centre in 2013. Why? It is an amazing show! I saw it with a friend in Toronto on July 10th, 2010.
What I remember the most is Yvan Pedneault! He was hilarious! He incorporated the fact that he had a french accent! The only thing I am disapointed about is that he is not touring and won't be part of the cast for the Ottawa show.
This was my second Toronto theatre trip in two years and the second show that Yvan Pedneault starred in. I swear it was not planned just a happy coincidence. Look how cute he is :)

Be our guest! Be our guest!!!
I can't wait for my daughter Mya to be old enough to come with mom to see shows like Lion King and Beauty and the Beast!
Even if the cast was horrible or the stage decor fell apart it wouldn't matter since Lumiere would sing the famous Be our Guest song! I love that song! It is right up there with Hakuna Matata from the Lion King.
It is easy to understand the shows 13 year popularity. Belle, Gaston, and the Beast were amazing! I must say that it would have been extremely easy for Belle to be sickeningly sweet (you know the kind that is so not believable that it is annoying!) It was a non stop action pack play!
I have been lucky enough to see Disney's Lion King at the National Arts Centre and hopefully Broadway Accross Canada will be bringing many more Disney classics to the Ottawa stage!
A MUST SEE!!!! and definitely one that I will add to my list to see again :)

Cats! One of the worst shows!
I saw Cats with my sister in-law on February 8th, 2011 and we both wanted to leave at the intermission. However since we were sitting up in the front rows we figured the cast would notice the empty seats . . . funny enough the people in front of us didn't think that way since they didn't come back . . .
The cast was so good at their job that it was a little creepy . . . at some point they came upon us in the orchestra seating licking paws (hands and feet).
From what I could tell by the discussions between people while leaving the National Arts Centre this is one of the shows that you either LOVE it or HATE it. Unfortunately I am in the HATE it category
Did you enjoy it?
