A Fiddler on the Roof in Ottawa??!!

Hi all!

Last night was the opening night for the broadway show Fiddler on the Roof here in Ottawa. If you have read my previous post you know that this play is what started it all for me sixteen years ago.  Well if I am being honest I didn't really remember the story . . . I knew that it had something to do with marrying off the daughters but that was about it. . . I was twelve :)

This is definitely a must see!  I understand why it continues to be a success. The lead in the play Tevye is hilarious!!! The comments and sounds made to show . . . well I won't tell you, you have to see it.  I will tell you this you will laugh!!!  For the Ottawa performance Tevye was played by John Preece . . . one word AMAZING.  The timing for the jokes was perfect (even though they weren't really jokes . . .), the dancing showed the traditions and history but was funny at the same time.

I will admit that I was extremely tired and the play did run long, starting at 8pm and ending at 11pm with a 20 minute intermission but it was well worth it.  If I absolutely had to say one critic there was one thing that was slightly annoying, the lighting.  Whenever there was a spot on one of the actors (who were standing still) it kept on moving.  But that is if I had to say something critical :)

Honestly, I can understand why I this play started my passion for the theatre, it makes you go through all these different emotions in a few hours.  It truly is entertainning! and a timeless classic of American/Canadian Musical Theatre.

Have you seen Fiddler on the Roof? If so what did you think about it?
